Bitcoin Whales Exit as ETF Outflows Hit Record $4.51B in June

What You Need to Know
- Whale wallets moved over $100 million in Bitcoin to exchanges within 24 hours across multiple holders.
- US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $4.51 billion in net outflows during June, the largest monthly decline on record.
- Tim Draper sold 150.84 BTC at a realized loss of $2.57 million after holding for one year.
- Clifton Collins acquired approximately 6,000 BTC in late 2011 and early 2012 across 12 separate wallets.
Large exchange inflows from whale wallets are rarely a single signal, but when they arrive in clusters across unrelated holders, the pattern becomes harder to dismiss. Over the last 24 hours, wallets connected to Clifton Collins, Riot Platforms, Tim Draper, and others have collectively moved over $100 million in Bitcoin to exchanges, compressing into a single window what has been building across weeks of on-chain data.
The timing lands on an already bruised market. Bitcoin started July at its lowest level in 21 months, briefly touching $57,950, after US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $4.51 billion in net outflows during June alone, the largest monthly pull on record. That ETF figure matters more than the price: sustained institutional outflows signal repositioning, not just profit-taking, and they create a demand vacuum that spot selling from whales fills without resistance. Draper’s move is the most symbolically loaded, with 150.84 BTC sent to Coinbase at a realized loss of roughly $2.57 million after a year of holding, from someone who has publicly called for $250,000 Bitcoin. When conviction breaks at that level, it reflects something beyond short-term price management.
Bitcoin’s exchange whale ratio has reached a local high near 0.69, meaning the largest depositors are becoming disproportionately aggressive about moving coins to sellable positions.
The Collins Wallets Add a Different Kind of Pressure
The Clifton Collins story runs parallel but carries its own mechanics. Collins, a former beekeeper from County Galway who ran a cannabis operation, acquired approximately 6,000 BTC in late 2011 and early 2012, split across 12 wallets of 500 BTC each, printed on paper keys hidden inside a fishing rod case. Ireland’s Criminal Assets Bureau confirmed a third 500 BTC seizure on July 2-3, valued at roughly $30.91 million, following a 500 BTC Coinbase Prime deposit in March and a 500 BTC move through a Wintermute address in May. Every one of these wallets had sat dormant for roughly a decade before 2026. Government-seized Bitcoin almost always hits the market, and the CAB transfers follow a script that suggests the remaining tranches will move on a similar cadence.
On the mining side, Riot’s systematic liquidation to fund its pivot into AI and high-performance computing infrastructure mirrors what MARA did earlier this year, selling 15,133 BTC for roughly $1.1 billion, and what Core Scientific signaled in January. Miners converting reserves into compute infrastructure is a structural shift, not a temporary cash need, and it removes a category of holder that historically absorbed supply during downturns. The pattern recalls how XRP’s largest holders quietly repositioned before extended drawdowns became visible to retail participants.
The Collins tranches are the clearest forward signal here: with at least nine 500 BTC wallets still unaccounted for in public on-chain data, CAB has established a transfer rhythm that the market can now anticipate, even if the exact timing remains unclear.
